A Hindu Goddess & The Rolling Stones (From Bali With Love)

So, I was perusing the Internet the other day and came across THIS PAGE about the creation of the Rolling Stones logo. Everyone knows the iconic logo as the tongue!

Where I am going with this? Well, as I read on, I discovered that the logo, created in 1970, wasn't just designed after Mick Jagger's notorious mouth, it was inspired by the Hindu Goddess, Kali. In Hindu, Kali means "the black one" or "lord of death", as stated by Wikipedia, though in Indonesia, Kali means "river".

According to story, Kali went on a killing spree in a battle with evil, destroying everything in sight. In order to stop her, another God, Lord Shiva, threw himself at her feet and Kali then, stuck her tongue out in astonishment...hence, the depiction of the tongue in most of her illustrations.

And since we are on the topic of Mick Jagger and Bali...did you know he married in Bali to American model Jerry Hall, in 1990? They had a Hindu ceremony in Ubud.

Ahh, gotta love both Mick and Bali!

Bali Plagued By Caterpillars (From Bali With Love)

I have been noticing little black caterpillars around my garden and a few inside the house at times. I thought it a bit strange, as I've never had a problem with them before.
Then, I came across the below article on Bali Discovery. Though the article suggests for residents to eat them.....I prefer to sweep them outside with a broom! :)

A growing plague of caterpillars is threatening to assume Biblical proportions as it spreads across the Indonesian archipelago, destroying valuable fruit and trees in its wake.

Three distinct varieties of insidious caterpillars have been identified in the spreading crisis – two of which attach and kill valuable Mango trees. The caterpillars, which cause skin irritations in contact with humans, has now been documented in six of Bali's nine regencies.

Over 70 plant and pestilence experts are now investigating the caterpillars in Bali and how best to halt their spread which has already reached Denpasar, Buleleng, Gianyar, Jembrana, Karangasem and Klungkung.

The rapid spread of the caterpillars is blamed by experts on the headlights of automobiles where the moths who lay the eggs of the pestilence take refuge, hitching a ride to their next area of infestation.

Scientists at Bali's Udayana University are busily formulating scientific tactics to eradicate the caterpillars.

But, while some seek the perfect insecticide to destroy the caterpillars, officials in some areas of Bali are urging their citizens to gather the furry insects and eat them.

Some media reports blame the sudden explosion of the caterpillars on the diminishing population of birds that once controlled the pest.

A Royal Wedding, in Bali? (From Bali With Love)

In honor of Prince William's wedding to Princess Kate Middleton, the Bali Dynasty Resort, in South Kuta, held a live screening on their big screen TV, on April 29, 2011 at 5 pm, for an entry fee of Rp. 250,000 per person (a little more than $25 US).

Upon doing some quick google searches, I discovered that Prince William gave his bride, his mother's sapphire and 14 diamond engagement ring. Very stunning and what an honor for Kate, to wear his late mother's ring. Princess Diana was a remarkable lady! At that time, it was made for 30,000 Euros (about 50,000 USD) but with today's rate, that value is about 85,700 Euros (143,000 USD).

I remember my own Mom telling me that she watched the Royal Wedding of Princess Di to Prince Charles, when she was pregnant with me, on 29 July 1981.

Here's a lovely comparison picture of Princess Diana's and Princess Kate's wedding trains.

And I have to say, the bouquet Kate used here, looks identical to Princess Di's. Very nice, personal touch to add to the wedding, that I'm sure meant a lot to Prince William.

Kate looked stunning on her wedding day and the pair looked absolutely in love with each other!

I think Princess Di would be very proud of her eldest son choice in marriage!

Congratulations and good luck to the Happy Couple!
